technologyFor translation and localisation we use Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, so called Translation Memory (TM) programs. The function of CAT software is to store the translations in memory and to automatically find and suggest suitable words and phrases when similar text is being translated. This ensures consistency of terminology, saves the translator’s time and thus, it minimises the expenses to the client (repeated text items are charged at a lower rate). CAT is not to be confused with Machine Translation (MT), when computer software alone does the translating. A translator using a CAT program is doing the translation work himself, with the Translation Memory program being only a tool to assist him in doing it better and more efficiently. CAT tools support many different formats, thereby making layout or DTP work easier.

Most of our projects are translated using TRADOS software, but we also use other popular CAT programs.
